FabricThis is a workshop that is basically intended to make use of fabrics in your stash - with perhaps a few additions. Several quilts can be made using the initial system. You will probably not know which you wish to make until you come to class. Each block uses two fabrics - a lighter and a darker fabric. While it is a scrap class the pieces need to be about twelve inches square to be sure that you can get the block out. I would suggest that you choose at least two colour ways. If you choose green and cream you will need a good selection of both. You might decide to use a colour mix - like blue, turquoise and purple for your darks with paler values in the same colours for the lighter areas. You might use a totally mixed collection of brights with black as the 'other' group. This is also a good class to show off collected fabrics - like florals, or foliage prints, cat prints or whatever holy fabrics you have accumulated over the years. Fat quarters are very useful. Any style of fabric will work - from Civil War reproductions to Jan Mullen's brights. You will need, at the very least, between thirteen and twenty squares of each colour family. The twelve inches is an estimate so do not trim your pieces - just bring them as they are. If you have more - bring it. A quilt with two hundred fabrics is more interesting than one with twenty. You might need more for borders but I prefer to
select these when the rest is finished. If you have any questions you can contact me: |
