This is a sectioned specimen of Lonsdaleia showing
radiating septa. This genus is found in rocks of the
Carboniferous period. Deep cracks flaw the specimen.
Reverse applique and piecing. Commercial cottons with
wool wadding, rayon and metallic threads.
The Earthskin series
Animals and plants once living are laid down as rock
to give us evidence of this country's past history.
I am interested in patterning in ways that are not usually
accessed by quiltmakers. All fossils used in the work
are Australian. For the Twist Exhibition, curated by
Dijanne Cevaal, 2001.
